About Museums for Us
The Museums for Us project is about working with people with intellectual disabilities to explore museums and to make suggestions about how museums could be better in the future.
We will update this website through blog posts as we go along.
The project has come about through a Museum Practice Fellowship based in Smithsonian Institution’s Centre for Education and Museum Studies and the Smithsonian Institution’s Accessibility Program.
The project has an informal network of advisors. They will help with community links and communication, ideas, recommended reading and linking the project with other work going on in D.C. and in the museum sector. They are: Mat McCollough, Executive Director of the D.C. Developmental Disabilities Council; Jonanthan Rix, The Open University and Professor Richard Sandell, University of Leicester. Many thanks to them all.
